Overview

The following are some of the musicians that have played or will be playing at Canterbury Coffee.

Brian Henke

Brian Henke composes and performs his music like a painter putting images on canvas, drawing his inspiration from the world around him. An avid hiker, he often brings his guitar along to create a spontaneous response to his outdoor settings. Mother Earth (Terra) as artist has given an immense living gallery from the humbling spectacle of her natural wonders to the simple, beauty of a treetop against a blue sky. Her majestic legacy and the magical feeling of awe and peace inspire the compositions of this award winning virtuosic fingerstyle guitarist.

Jim Volk

Jim Volk's “Blue Wheels” has been traveling nation-wide with great critical acclaim and daily airplay across the country. Recently, the song “Mistress Of The House” was awarded first place in the solo instrumental category and the album second place in the “Just Plain Folks” 2002 music awards. Volk received five nominations in the largest music awards event in history out of nearly 8,000 album and over 100,00 song submissions.

Jazz Ethics

Jazz Ethics, the hard working Columbus quartet, performs their unique arrangements of classic jazz standards, memorable originals, and eclectic favorites. Jazz Ethics is a guitar, piano, bass, & drums quartet that plays a blend of music from every era. The band features dynamic 3 part vocal harmonies, blending Blues, Rock, Latin, and Reggae into a toe-tappin’ Jazzy Groove. Jazz Ethics has been blending these divers backgrounds and musical styles since 1985, and is equally at home in classy restaurants, corporation events, small clubs, out-door festivals, or large auditoriums.

John Mosey

Jon Mosey is another talented musician that plays at Canterbury Coffee. Jon Mosey is a superb performer who presents a truly unique blend of original music. He is equally at home playing pre-war country Blues styles, Ragtime, Western Swing, Old-time string band music, Bluegrass, Cajun or a variety of other traditional American music. Jon's songwriting is different yet familiar, firmly grounded in those traditions, yet distinctly contemporary.

Eric Loy

For guitar enthusiasts,Eric Loy appears to be held in high esteem. And once you check out Wackazoid or any of his other releases, including with his fusion trio Hipperoos, you will be catapulted into a unique and wholly energetic listening experience. To say that Loy, has incredible guitar technique is to say that a cheetah runs fast -- it's understatement bordering on banality. Watching him perform I have the same sensation I get watching kids in arcades play Dance Dance Revolution at its highest setting; their feet move so fast I can't imagine how they're hitting all the right arrows. Likewise, Loy's fingers move at such lightning speed I'm surprised there isn't a time delay between the moment he plucks the strings and the notes hit my ears.

Mark Snider

Mark Snider is a guitarist that does many styles; including, Flamenco, New Age, Jazz, Classical, Pop, music from TV and movies. Mark plays at venues throughout Ohio, and his biggest claim to fame is performing at receptions for the Smothers Brothers and Olivia Newton-John at the Schuster Center in Dayton Ohio. His original compositions fuse many different musical styles to create a wonderfully inspiring sound.

Mike Sedmak Youngstown, Ohio in 1953, one of seven children. My parents, George & Mary Lou, have been married for 58 years and currently reside in Youngstown. Attended Fitch High in Austintown, Ohio. Graduated from Youngstown State University in 1987 with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Married Kathy Mocker in 1979, Our sons: Micah, born 1983 & Luke, born 1985. We currently reside in Dayton, Ohio. Currently employed as an Electrical Engineer in the Robotics Industrial Automation Industry. Started playing guitar at age 11. First song learned: Bonanza. In my youth, played in many basement/garage bands, and in later years, club bands. During those years I was influenced by the early days of Rock music in the late 60's and 70's which is now fondly referred to as Classic Rock. While living in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio in the 1990's, I was introduced to the Smooth Jazz genre and was immediately captivated by the instrumental melody and improvisation. After our children were grown and my career established, I found more time to devote to music. I now enjoy playing the Classic Rock songs I grew up listening to and performing in my youth, as well as many of the Smooth Jazz songs that have been recorded over the past decades.

Mike SedMak is one of the great players doing his thing at Canterbury Coffee on Friday nights!

He performs regularly in and around Nashville, where he relocated in 2005, as well as returning to Ohio periodically for shows. Kent is currently working on a new CD of original songs (audio samples available at My Space) and looking forward to his next Canterbury gig.
